Hello everyone,

I hope this finds everyone well and keeping safe.

Thank you all for your consistently helpful knowledge and insight.

I was hoping somebody would be willing to share a US labelling checklist to use as guidance.

We are a Canadian manufacturer who is new to US labelling.

Thank you.

My first reaction :roflmao:.  There is no real checklist. That would be too simple which the US labeling laws are not.

The best document (easiest to follow) out there is the following: https://www.fda.gov/...-labeling-guide

It depends on a lot of variables. How big your company is, how big the package is, what you make, etc.

As mentioned above the labeling guide is a really good place to start! I do want to add though, that the guide has not been updated since 2013. The Nutrition Panel specifically, in that guide, is inaccurate. Here are some links on the updated format that helped me a lot when creating ours!

I also think this is the best, easiest to follow.

The only other point I would bring up that is if it is a meat or dairy product that would fall into the parameters of the USDA to check out those labeling guidelines, if that is still applicable.  It has been 10 years since I was working at a USDA inspected facility, so some things might have changed.  Unfortunately FDA and USDA seem to have different guidelines for everything when they kind of do similar things.  Just saying...lol.

Dairy ingredients in food facilities falls under FDA. Dairy farms however USDA.

that is a great point.

This website does a pretty good job of summarizing and providing links to everything you need to consider. Addressed FDA and USDA.
