Rigid container cleanliness checks

Hi all,

I'm in a fairly new role preparing an established facility for a 1st time BRC audit.

We package in cans and bottles here, using various waterless container rinses before packaging and I'm looking at this standard and I'm thinking about a recent issue and I'm not sure how to proceed. Presently, the production team is in charge of regular upkeep of the devices and quality checks that it's on and for metal and glass occasionally but not much else. I think we can do a lot better in this area but I think I need a better understanding.

Does anyone have an example of container cleanliness checks they can share?

At this point, micro is not a concern as we're packaging alcoholic beverages, but foreign material definitely is.

TIA for your help.

-Amelia

Hi, I don’t know much about packing into bottles, we pack into plastic containers. Those just questions I’d ask myself. Is that step a CCP or an operational PRP? Do you have a validation study of cleaning activities? Do you trend customer complaints against this step? Do production teams record their FB findings and trends: glass, metal, plastic? Does the supplier confirm the containers are safe for your purpose?
