Shelf life Validation - Frequency

We are a BRC certified Facility.

We validate shelf life of each and every product before its launch and random sampling each year.

As BRC states, shelf life validation frequency must be risk based. Since we have not registered any case of short shelf life or consumer complaint in relation to non conforming product. Is the above mentioned approach correct.

Please advise.

You may also want to add the annual review (or twice/yearly) of your ingredient and packaging suppliers (approved vendor listing) to ensure there have not been any changes there that would impact your shelf life

There's no best model for risk assessment. In this case, the risk is evaluated by experiences and feedback history. IMO, a short paper of statistic and statement of low risk sounds OK, unless you meet a dogmatic auditor who love seeing complicated forms like decision tree or risk matrix, etc.

Also I agree with Scampi on a yearly scheme of reviewing.

Hi arshsbrar,

There is no info. regarding the nature of product, eg specific type/status/packaging/storage/declared shelf life.

This precludes any speculation as to possible risk involved which may be critical to any Validatory Procedure.

Please supply some context.

Thank you everyone.

@Chales.C,

Hi,

I believe a validation to start with is the best.

Follow this will annual verifications which test your product at EOL.

Many thanks
