Storage and Accountability of Safety Glasses

We are looking at introducing the wearing of safety glasses whilst in the factory. Seeking ideas on how others have managed the storage of the glasses and the accountability of employees wearing the glasses.

I my company, Department manager issues safety glasses and gets his signature. if he (employee) lost somewhere, he has to give a reason in writing where he lost (only then new glasses will be issued) thats how he becomes accountable to take care of his safety glasses as no body wants to go to manager and take shit from him for stupid reason :ejut: :ejut:.
For making sure that every body is wearing-- if any employees sees other employee not wearing the glasses. He conveys to his supervisor/manager. Then that Supervisor/Manager sends a complaint to that particular employee's manager, that's how it is managed in my company.

May I ask what's the reason of wearing safety glasses at food industry? What are you producing?

We produce jams; purees; syrups on an aseptic line.
The product is heated to quite a high temperature and whilst guards are in place there is open areas where there is the potential for spillage; product flipping up which has been deemed a risk that needs to be controlled.
We also have a dried fruit line (think of a fruit roll up diced into pieces) which also is poured at a high temperature and at the packing end has the risk of dust due to the dusting of the product.

Sorry, I'm not much help: our company's not using safety glasses much (well, only couple persons, handling chemicals), and there's no need for accountability as it never seemed those workers had troubles losing safety glasses. However, in your case I would bother to give your workers safety training on usage, storage, accountability, etc. - just to be on a safe side if anything happens either to a worker or to the glasses in terms of foreign matter contamination.

To get useful input you may need to provide some more context/information as to exactly what you're looking for.
I have seen glasses placed in bins near the entry points. Anyone that walk into the production floor gets a handwash, boot cleaning, hairnet, mask, and goggles. Everyone enforces it so you would hear people yelling at anyone that walked through the door that might have missed the donning station.

I agree with this. Make it a donning station and require everyone to go through it.

Depending upon the numbers of people involved issuing everybody with glasses as they walk in can be a problem with storage and will there be a need to clean them after use. Some people are more 'prone to perspiration' especially in a hot jam making environment.
I would number the glasses and log their issue in much the same way as many companies issue knives. Make it a rule to store them in lockers when not in use.
If a pair of glasses is found in the factory, the number will identify the owner and you can take whatever motivational actions you deem appropriate. Safety glasses are clearly issued as a Health & Safety measure. In the UK our H&S laws require companies to do more than simply provide PPE, you have to enforce its use. Numbering and logging them will help with this.
