Requirements for selling coffee waste
Hello! I had posted a few days ago, but I had another question
The brewery I am working for is interested in finding different ways to repurpose or sell our coffee waste (coffee grounds), since we recently began manufacturing coffee. I am having a bit of a hard time finding companies that buy coffee waste so I am thinking we could package and sell it ourselves. One of my ideas is to market it as pesticide
Are there any legal or FDA requirements for doing something like this? We are working on our organic certificate and I am planning to ask QCS whether we can count the coffee waste as an organic byproduct and market it as organic pesticide

Ok, so you have some work cut out for you on this one. The FDA does not regulate pesticides. That is done by the EPA, specifically under FIFRA regulation. FDA will monitor products for the amount of pesticide residue that remains after processing but that is about it. They will, however, monitor the food side of things to make sure that you are keeping things safe and separate.
I have included a few sites that will help but you will need to do some further investigation so see how this will impact the food side of things. At first glance it looks like it wont be too much trouble since the coffee grounds are inert ingredients from commonly consumed food commodities. Hope his helps!

I would totally buy that product!
You could also potentially sell it as ice melt, as a more eco-friendly solution than salt.
Had no idea the number of uses until this post came into my life lol
