Stepping into some BIG SHOES

Hello everybody. My name is Bryce Thumser. I am the Interim QA/QC Manager for a company that manufactures nutritional supplements. I have been the Assistant for some years now, however after my supervisors's unexpected departure, I have been attempting to fill her shoes. I was told of this forum and that it would be a great place to get advice and answers.

My main objective presently is to find out the pros and cons to being "NSF/GMP" certified when we're already "SQF" certified.

Thank you.

Bryce

Welcome!

Off the top of my head, you will get more customer recognition in your category from NSF that all the others combined as most people don't look at supplements as "food"

Welcome Bryce

In my opinion, no it does not make a difference if you are cGMP certified. We fall under the DS rule & have never had the need to do anything besides GFSI. Our BRC has proven to be adequate enough for us.

SQF does offer a Dietary Supplement Manufacturing standard perhaps you might consider adding this to your existing SQF.

Welcome to the group!  This is an excellent resource and has been leveraged globally to help with questions just like this.

SQF is great and gives you a lot of recognition already.  Logos on your system and standards are great.  Additional programs are helpful because they show that you are in line with specific groups that the customers may be more familiar with.

SQF is good because it is one of the programs that is attempting to globally harmonize the system.  Building other programs into what you already have with SQF is typically pretty easy unless you are going from one major program to another and there are huge differences in format.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
