Cleaning Metal Components

We are in need of some guidance. We are a plastic/paper converter and preparing for a food safety audit and need a way to clean our machines more effectively. The problem we are facing is that many of these machines have metal components that are quick to rust, ex. Using a regular Clorox wipe produces rust almost immediately on some surfaces. I am wondering if anyone can recommend a cleaning agent that would be both food safe and gentle on the machines?

Chlorine (like chlorox wipes) is one of the most corrosive chemicals to use on metal, any metal but particularly none SS  Plus, not commercial recommended

Try something gentler like Simple Green or Crystal Simple Green

Are you actually wanting to sanitize?  Or just clean?          You could try isopropyl alcohol-----the fast evaporation rate should equal less corrosion, as your sanitizer but only on non direct food contact  metals                  PAA is less corrosive than chlorine, but you need to ensure your using the lowest possible concentration

I second the Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green- they work like a charm and are usually very readily available.  

If you want a cleaner / sanitizer you can try Drysan Duo from Ecolab.  Also, there are quaternary ammonia based cleaners / sanitizers.  Alpet D2 is a common alcohol / quat wipe, or you can buy the liquid and use it in sprayers.
