Renting outside storage warehouse for FGs
Hi all, my facility will be temporarily renting space that is SQF certified- cold storage. We will be sending finished goods to be shipped to another location for package.
I am going to create a checklist to audit as if it were our own warehouse, but due to their SQF certification, would that be sufficient enough information for an auditor?
They are about 20 miles away- mixed finished goods/ other companys etc/.
Our product is dressing- wrapped pallets.
so, your product will just be cross docked there???
You said your shipping FG, but then final destination with be doing the packaging?
If the 3rd party warehouse is truly just cross docking (load in/hold/load out) the SQF certification PLUS allergens control plan should suffice
just receiving and sending finished product- apologies
Warehouse is SQF certified!
We have used similar facilities in the past. Despite their SQF certification, we still conducted an onsite visit. I used the same inspection form that we use for our ingredient suppliers - understanding that some sections will be n/a. The purpose of the visit was to better understand where our product would be stored, their dock practices, trailer inspection / receiving process (verifying seals, etc.), and to get eyes on the facility. I have been to too many facilities that are compliant for an audit, but are pretty relaxed the rest of the time OR show 'corporate policies' for their audits but don't actually follow them in their facility.
Great info, thank you all.
I ended up doing as you said jkoratich712 and used that as basis for our onsite and document review.
Do you all have suggestions for a warehouse we would purchase or rent (empty) and makign it up to code- preferably SQF
aside from risk analysis, what other main certifications should we require?
Thanks!
