Hi packman,

Easy with respect to what ?

IMO, none are generically  easy.

Do you need to get gfsi certified, as in has a customer demandedit?

Yes.  Customer requested GFSI certification

To me - FSSC is the simplest over other schemes, though I'm not sure about requirements for this specific area. Plastic straws - what this manufacturing falls under? Packaging materials - no, food - no, what else? Curious...

Actually, under BRC - Plastic Straw Manufacturing falls under Packaging Standard. I work in the industry, and many manufacturers of straws are audited to this standard. Sometimes they opt to use the Consumer Product standard, but is a bit rare.

To echo Charles's response earlier, I don't know if there is an "easy" GFSI scheme.

I am biased as one of the first SQF Auditors in the US and as an SQF Consultant for the past 14 years ti say that SQF is the easier one overall when considering time investment to develop and maintain.

Plastic straws would fall under the packaging category across the GFSI schemes.

Hi packman,

Needless to say your query is far from unique (64,000 generic hits on Google).

Maybe have a look at this older but still interesting (IMO) thread -

This oldish "analysis" seemed quite thoughtful also -

This one is specifically for packaging and is (obviously) potentially biased however interesting nonetheless IMO -

This comparison is more Food oriented but I daresay the insights offered equally apply to Packaging -

This restricted study of availability/implementation of some GFSI-recognised Standards  also has a fascinating section of comments by users of various GFSI Standards
