How to physically challenge a New Optical Sorter?

Hey All-

We are putting in an optical sorter as a new OPRP.  Can anyone share how they are physically "challenging" the system?  I have heard of some different people have in place  (fishing line? alligator clip holding offensive material), but am wondering what other ideas are in use out there?  As unfortunate as it seems,, our supplier of the system seems to have very little knowledge!  Thanks to any ideas.

maybe you are using the same supplier as one of our past clients was about to go with.

This is a high speed LED sorter for fresh out of the ocean shrimp.

They decided not to use the original company in the us, opting to get a machine direct from the manufactuer in Finland that specialized in seafood sorting.

Watching this machine in action was just amazing because their were about 5 ships off-loading super sack sized nets of shrimp into an fast moving cold water sluice then scattered onto a 10 foot wide conveyor that ran thru the LED machine, offending mal-forms, black spotted, lacking tails were either swing armed off the lne or vac'd upwards and shot out to a holding tank.

Get a machine from a company that knows what they are doing, the rep is going to have to set the machine up and you can't afford to let a lot of bad pass by or be rejecting a lot of good.

What product is it for? We had optical sorters for years. I highly recommend Buhler. Great installs and decades of experience. When the techs did the install we had to "train' the computer and teach it what to detect. We then saved the programs for diffent products and simply had our production personnel select what program to use before running product.

* For a GFSI audit note the sorters we had used compressed air to eject the the bad product from the flow so we had to test the compressed air at point of use to ensure it did not contaminate.

Thanks for the info!  We are using an inline divert paddle.  Our product is a dried citrus peel, looks a bit like corn flakes.  We went with Mettler Toledo.  So far we are pretty happy but I am surprised they don't have suggestions on challenging the system.  Do either of you have any ideas from what you have seen?  A meat producer told me they send through foreign material with a string attached to prevent it from accidental contamination.  That seems a bit risky.  Any thoughts?

They are pretty amazing machines, and our goes very fast.
