Allergen and Finished Product Labelling

Good day. We are in the process of updating our labels and realize that one of the ingredients we use is manufactured on a line which produces celery powder. How should we treat that on our finish product label? Do we have to mention celery powder on our finish product label?  Why or Why not?

Thank you!

That would depend on your country regulation for allergens: is celery included in the list of main official allergens? For instance, neither in US nor in Canada celery is not considered allergen.

Hello Olenazh,

Thank you for your prompt response. My country does not have an allergen list. I can't rule out the fact that our product may be consumed by individuals who have a celery allergy.

People have many allergies and intolerances, you cannot address all of them on your label. However, if you feel you'd better indicate celery on your label - go ahead. Just think how you word it: are you going to call celery "allergen"? Who decides what is allergen and what is not - if it's not regulated in your country?
