Cover for conveyor motor and bearing in production area
Hi all,
our QA team would like to fabricate a cover for conveyor motor and bearing at production area to prevent any cross contamination might be from occurrence, knowing that bearing and motor part might have grease leaking issue after being use sometime.
However, this idea has been rejected by our technical team , saying that motor and bearing wouldn't have oil-leak issue.
Anyone has encountered situation above and how to resolved it in amicably.
Hi Carine,
A picture might help.
I have come across this with milk/yoghurt tanks having a motor on top and potential for leaking oil to drip into the tank.
Three precautions:
1. Use food grade oil
2. Have a catch tray underneath to catch any leakage
3. Regular inspection and periodic changing of seals
Kind regards,
Tony
Not all motors are the same--some are completely sealed so there is zero chance of there being a leak---the motor will simply go from working to not and will need replaced
Agree with Charles, a photo would be helpful---not just for location but motor type as well
Like Tony said - drip pan under the motor. Maintenance can weld one/make one. We have this on a majority of our motors, very few problems.

sorry Tony--hadn't had enough coffee yet this morning :)
Also can depend on where you work. When I worked in California there was a CAL-OSHA rule that only allowed so many inches of the bearing / shaft to stick out before it was manadatory to place a cover on. Might check out your local regualtions relating to personnel safety as a means to get your cover.
