BRC 9 clause 4.6.4, 4.6.6 - Static-mobile equipment

Twice a week, we join a metal detector to the production line. On other days the detector is not used - it is disconnected from the line. We don't use it. According to BRC v.9, is the metal detector a static equipment (clause 4.6.4) or mobile equipment (clause 4.6.6)? How should we consider it?

If it remains on the same place (regardless it's connected to the line or disconnected) it's static. If you move it from one place to another (e.g. from line 1 to line 2) - it's mobile.

HI, Has anyone a procedure for moving static equipment. please

Hello Nathalie,

according to the interpretation Guideline: "Static equipment is defined as pieces of equipment that are not ordinarily moved or are moved only in exceptional circumstances; for example, due to redesign of the production area, relocation to another site or necessary maintenance that cannot be completed in situ"

Then, it is NOT  a mobile equipment.

I hope to clear this out,

best regards,

Leila

HI, Has anyone a procedure for moving static equipment. please

Hi,

The procedure may include:

  • the type of equipment to be moved

  • how the movement will occur (e.g. whether specialist equipment or contractors are

    required)

  • requirements for re-installation

  • authorisation (which staff are authorised to permit movement)

  • responsibility (which staff will be responsible for managing the movement)

  • staff training (e.g. on the procedure to ensure they understand the risks involved)

  • records required to demonstrate all necessary controls were completed

  • post-movement cleaning (see, for example, clause 4.7.4).
