Making a nutrient claim with a different serving size than listed in nutrition table
Hello - I work for a chocolate manufacturer in the US and we want to make a claim on the front label of a chocolate bar about the sugar content per square. The thing is our bars have eight squares and the serving size is 1/3 bar so any claim about a single square would not match up with the sugar content shown in the nutrition table. I think I've read through all of the applicable sections of 21 CFR 101 but I'm still not sure this claim would be allowed due to the serving size mismatch so I'm hoping somebody here can offer guidance.
Thank you in advance!
Hello,
Do you mean Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labeling (FOPNL)? As far as I know FOPNL is based on the serving size and better be the same as the serving size shown in the Nutrition Facts table to avoid confusion.
I would suggest you go for the Nutrient Content Claim (Free, Low, Reduced/ Less) according to the FDA Food Labeling Guide: https://www.fda.gov/...Guide-(PDF).pdf
