is there ANY possible way for the hydraulic fluid to get onto the product or is is a fully contained/sealed unit?

If it has an open shaft that could buildup the oil and spill onto the food contact surface or the product-then absolutely

Imagine the fork as food-----what do you want to eat?  Food grade where a little won't hurt you or nonfood where it could be toxic

Scampi beat me to it. If there is a chance of contamination, it needs to be Food Grade lubricants.

Even if there is no chance of contamination on this particular machine, I would recommend food grade hydraulic oils and lubricants. That way you can use the same hydraulic oil on all machines without wondering if you have to use the food-grade or non-food-grade product and still have contamination risks covered.

I would echo SHQuality's suggestion, using a food grade oil would be a safer option for your facility as a whole. It's a greater risk to keep more hazardous oils onsite because of potential misuse. In my experience, there are some very effective food grade oils out there these days. You should be able to find a rather effective oil that is not significantly more expensive than what you're currently using.
