For those who have not yet seen this, in August 2023 the FSA published updated guidance following a consultation held earlier in 2023. The main focus of the update is around precautionary allergen labels (PAL).

Key takeaways are:

  • A PAL should only be used following a risk assessment that shows an unavoidable risk of cross-contamination.
  • A PAL should not be used when a free-from claim is being used.
  • Clarification on the use of PAL with vegan claims.

Visit the FSA website to download the updated guidance.
