Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) test in juices and soft drinks
I would like to know if there are test strips or test kits for sulfur dioxide (SO2) testing in juices and soft drinks or is it just the original method determination by distillation?
There are some simple test strips that are used in home wine making. if your are testing for safety or legality, I would not use these.
I believe neogen has a kit that involves a spectrophotometer. Again, you would want to make sure the test method is properly validated and have the sensitivity required.
There are test strips available, as kingstudruler1 advises, but be aware that these are generally only going to give you an indicative level of the free SO2 content, rather than the total SO2 content. There are kits available that will give you values for both of these with additional sample preparation steps.
I do agree with the post above though - unless you're only after a rough indication for home use, I'd look at the ripper and/or Monier-Wiliams methods.
