Micro-testing (E.Coli, Salmonella, Yeast and Mold) for supplier

Hello All,

 

If a supplier does not have any micro-testing, such as E.coli. and Salmonella, can my company conduct the micro-testing for our usage and would this be consider a CCP?

More info needed. Micro testing doesn't always mean a CCP. It could be part of your supplier approval program. 

Basically my company buy raw Irish sea moss from a small company in the Jamaica. The small company does not do any micro-testing to the raw Irish Sea moss. The only documentation that we received from the company is an invoice. I am trying to built a HACCP plan for my company. The company that I work for is still new and trying to make sure there is no issues with the product we sell.

your company can obviously test.  

 

However testing for pathogens is tricky.   They are not usually uniformily dispersed and may be hard to recover.  Testing a small number of samples no really scientific as statistically you are unlikely to find the problem.   for this reason,  testing of product for pathogens is not considered a valid CCP.   

 

If there is a microbiological hazard, I would be more interested in how it is controlled.    Either you or your supplier needs to control the hazard.  Testing can be used as a form of validation
