Hi All,

If aluminum foil is used as primary packaging (example: for cheese cake, same al foil used in as mold in baking to packing), what kind of document that i have to request from supplier? Is it compulsory to conduct lab tests for aluminum traces? If CoA is needed what kind of parameter/ tests that i should be looking for?

Hi, you would want them to complete a supplier approval questionnaire which would ask the right questions to ensure they comply with your requirements. You might also want to audit the supplier.

Ask the supplier:

Is the packaging suitable for food contact(food safe)

Are they accredited- BRC ect?

do they have a QMS/HACCP ect?

ask for their hazard risk assessment relating to the packaging

If you are making branded product for a customer you will need to comply with your customers COP'S

hi :)

I believe you already approved this supplier based on risk assessment etc..

Think about factors affecting migration

- Temperature

- Time

- Molecular size of the migrant

- Nature (composition of the food)

- Nature (structure of the packaging)

- Amount of migratable substance in the packaging

- Ratio between packaging surface area and volume (weight)

For more see - migration-guideline-consultation-draft-august-2015.pdf (pac.gr)

Speak to your supplier, let them know about your product (BRC issue 9 requirement), ask for migration test & COA

;)
