Cleaning methods and chemicals for plastic IBCs?

Hi

We have just introduced Plastic IBCs to our production process. They are used as the water tanks for our production. The water is cold. The water goes from IBCs via pipes to cooker, its not boiled at any point.

Can anybody recommend any good cleaning methods / chemicals for this ?

Also, what testing would you have in place for the water / IBCs to esnure no bacterias present ?

Hi, quite tricky.

I believe you are BRC certified (?) and this is a new equipment (4.6) base on this the supplier should let you know how to clean / sanitizing the IBC tank.

I would test as usual (potable water), based on the risk assessment.

Hi,

Thanks for this.

No we arent BRC yet, were preparing new factory for BRC audit now.

What would you do about testing for legionella ?

cleaning totes is a pain.  most have dead spots that dont drain well.  The water gets "cooked" in the cooker?

I would get tote/ibc washer if possible.

Hi,

Legionella should be okay, but is associated with stagnant water. Here you should use water pretty quickly.

Is potable so TVC 22 and 37. Total coliforms and E.coli.
