Misleading Claims About Iso 9001

I was sent a preview copy of a brochure from an outfit called Professional Contractors Group, describing a QAIC (Quality Assured Independent Consultants) scheme for ISO 9001 certification.

It contains the following statements which I believe to be untrue. What do you think??

'…ISO9001 ... enables organisations to … deliver service excellence'

'Certification will provide clients with assurance that your consultants are what they claim to be'

'Certification will demonstrate that your organisation is run ... honestly'

Yeah Jim,
These claims are indicitive of many consultant schemes that, I have seen spring up here in Canada and America.
Many of these kind of consultants get into organizations with stealth (Read Bull Sh**) tactics. They basically inform a potential client that, they should use the standard to create processes, instead of infusing an establishement of business processses first and then aligning Business processes to a standard of choice.
The future of Business management standards are put at risk when many businesses are put to the yolk of the ISO standards way before they have even thought about process thinking.

Well it's just marketing baloney isn't it? Another industry scam-scheme designed to extract cash from the unknowing. Perhaps if they'd used a few 'can's' and 'may's' it might have sounded a tad more credible. Mind you I never trust anyone who says ‘honest'!

Another of those topics that make you sad to be in the trade.

Sales pitch of hollow marketing phrases to catch the unwary.

Totally in sync with all.

And, guess what happens when you get to see such marketing tactics being deployed. Consultation fees drop deep with end results pointing towards a heavy compromise of quality works extended to clients.

Having said the above, whats the value of an organization that is certified to ISO 9001:2000 these days. I am always a believer of trust and relationship that is built over time. Personally, ISO 9001:2000 means nothing to me unless it is practised in earnesty.

Note: There was an earlier discussion on ISO 9001:2000 which Richard / Jim brought up about the need to use ISO 9004 concurrently for continual improvement in ISO 9K. I believe there is a huge number of organizations certified to ISO 9K that do not have an inkling of what ISO 9004 is.

Charles, you are correct!!

I have the same 'apathy' regarding TS16949. My customers have recently passed certification audit, and I know they are woefully deficient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never mind, I assume we will be completely 'worked over' by our cert body when we get to the appropriate audits

the story of my young life and my woes exact!
2 things i wanna suggest
1. tighten the certification process ; everything will automatically fall into place.
2. Form a worldwide professional organization that qualifies consultants (like the PMI )!

simon sounds like a job for Saferpak!!!! Would love to contribute esp to the 2nd idea , Manoj you wanna do something like that in India?
