Hi all,

Sorry for my silly questions lately. Where do I dispose of burnt bulbs? We've got a whole box of them biting dust.

Presuming you are talking about LED or fluorescent...?

In many US cities there are recycling programs where you can just drop them off. Call your municipality.

Hello Kconf,

It depends on the type of bulbs, if these are LED's, you can take them to a local recycling center or municipal hazardous waste facilities for bulbs. You can even take them to some Lowe's and Home Depots.  If they are Incandescent bulbs, you can throw them away with your regular trash, I would recommend wrapping them up in paper towels or something similar.

Box them up and securely tape shut and write broken glass on box, then it can be disposed with regular trash.

Are you in the U.S.?

If fluorescent: Do not purposely break bulbs or just toss them in the trash!  There can be fines if you are caught doing this on purpose. Box them up, keep the bulbs whole, write "Used Lamps" or "Waste Lamps" on the box. Some state laws are different that others, so check with your state to see where you can take them.

If they are LED, you can trash them, but recycling them would be the best option. Your state should also have a list of where they can be dropped off.
