Hello,

I need your quick answer please

i discovered that some colleagues store the meal in the locker room and when we discussed about it the answer was" in the fridge our meal is stolen and anyway we put it in a cooler bags in the locker room so there is no risk for the food"!!!

How could i convince them in this case?

Thank you for your answers

If you have a policy stating "no food in lockers", which you should, tell them it has to be followed.

As for their food being stolen, you have to come up with some solution. Try the following.

Post Rules - Put a sign on the fridge reminding employees to respect others' food and only eat what they brought. You can also encourage or require employees to write their names on their lunch bags

Let employees know that theft is against company policy and that disciplinary action will be taken. You can also ask employees to report any theft to a supervisor or through an anonymous channel.

If possible, locate the lunchroom in a public area so that the fridges are more visible.

Encourage employees to use containers that are unlikely to be confused with others.

Maybe the thefts they are experiencing are not people eating others' food, but just clean ups - being thrown away if left long without names.

Good luck!

we put a fake CCTV in the canteen - issue is now sorted

Cameras are probably the best anti-theft deterrent I can think of. I have had to use them in the past on several occasions to find the lunch thief. They obviously need to be pointing correctly.

How I plan on handling keeping food out of lockers? A sign stating: "Absolutely no food to be stored in lockers," discussing it at monthly training (these were already implemented by previous director), company issued locks for all lockers (even the ones not claimed, otherwise you will find people claim them as temporary food spots).

To handle verification: monthly spot checks (part of the GMP check for that area now), and probably an annual full locker check. I've got HR going with me for the locker checks just to assuage any possible fears of privacy breach.

I still personally think it's overkill not to allow food in lockers in the lunchroom, but smarter people than me from this site have helped me see it's still something I should be doing.
