BRCGS Issue 9- Food Fraud Vulnerability Assessment

Hi,

In the BRCGS audit, an auditor raised a non-conformity under section 5.4.3 regarding vulnerability assessment, noting the sophistication of routine testing to detect adulterants was not considered in our VACCP assessment. However, we have a concern, doesn’t the term “detectability of adulterants” cover this aspect? Are these two separate points, or are they addressing the same issue?

Thank you in advance.

Hi NipunRRSL,

They are not the same, maybe this is a translation issue. Detectability means ability to detect fraudulent product but doesn’t mean any measures are necessarily applied. BRCGS requirements are for you to consider testing within the supply chain. See below.

BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 9 Clause 5.4.3 Guidance states:

‘Typical information to incorporate into the assessment includes:

……

• sophistication of routine testing to identify adulterants. If testing within the supply chain is comprehensive and specifically focused on potential fraud issues, then the likelihood of adulteration is reduced (e.g. fruit juice is often tested for a comprehensive range of parameters, including DNA, isotopic analysis, added sugars and added water to prevent potential fraud)’

Kind regards,

Tony

Hi Tony,

I got the Idea. :smarty:

Thank you.
