Trailer Inspection Requirements for UPS-FedEx Shipments

How do you document trailer inspections of UPS/FedEx trucks? We receive a lot of raw materials through UPS/FedEx and also ship finished goods through those shippers. We have auditors asking why we do not have trailer inspections completed on these shipments. Most of the time we don't even see the deliveries/pickups. I have a check off on the trailer inspection form that shows no need for inspection on LTL.

In lieu of the trailer inspections (since you mentioned sometimes you don't even receive the truck) do you document inspections on the actual item you're receipting in?

We also have a section on our receiver for 'shipment condition' and 'sealed properly' where they mark NA on ltl's, but we are still checking that the PRODUCT is intact and sealed.

Heck we just NCP'd a box of food contact caps because it came ripped open with the caps exposed, and that was noted on the receiver (was an LTL).

Everything is being visually checked - regardless of carrier name - thus UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc are all inspected and documented.

Fortunately, we have a limited window for ships and receives everyday due to being an island where the trucks come over from the Cape in the morning and are once again lined up for getting on the ferries by noon to 1pm - thus we see them all - this will of course become interesting when we start ships by drones and will need to inspect the dangle boxes next year.
