Date Coding Ideas?

I'm looking for ways of date coding boxes before or preferably as they travel down a conveyor. The date needs putting on the top of cardboard sleeves that are in outer boxes. The outers are different sizes and the number of sleeves contained in an outer can vary from 4 up to 36.

Ideas so far:

1. Hand write it on
2. Pricing gun (like they used to use in supermarkets)
3. Automatic by ink jet

As far as I can see all of the above have problems. I'm thinking that it's too complicated (expensive) to be automated with something like ink jet. Little pricing type labels can come off easily and handwriting is onerous.

Don’t know how simple or complicated you want it, if you investigate in line barcode or labelling, you can find reasonably priced systems.

As a cheap alternative why not a simple 'old fashioned' rubber stamp, still a manual onerous option but I'm in the job market if you need someone to stamp boxes , if you need it to stand out better get your corrugated supplier to print a dedicated space..

I think I will, although these would probably have to be put on by the operator, which isn't ideal. I was hoping for some sort of automatic solution, but I don't think it could cope with random pack formations. You never know.

It's an idea, but in my experinece it can get a bit messy, if you insist though I'll get you some gloves.
