Validation For A Shifter Mesh Size

Most manufacturers of Shifters (Sieves) recommend mesh cloth sizes according to their inhouse research data.

Thats OK for validation purposes where new shifters meant for specific functions (i.e. sieving flour) are purchased from manufacturers who have such data base support.

But what about food operators who are using shifters that are "designed" by fabricators. What is the reference for sieve mesh size validation in this case?

- Its a headache searching for validation support. Can anyone out there lend a hand on this one?
