scalp hair covering

The BRC IOP standard speaks about adequate hair covering.
Can you based on historical data and experience say that no hair covering is required because it has never led to any problems.
We are talking about this subject for a extruding and converting environment in the plastics industry. Let me know what think.

Adequate scalp covering for category B is a generic requirement and I don't see a way out of it completely. Pragmatically speaking a history of zero ‘reported' hair contamination complaints are one good indicator but it is not a guarantee that either it has not happened or that it will not happen again in the future.
In the BRC/IOP you can through the hazard analysis, show that some aspects of production may be exempted from some of the provisions of the Standard (see page 10-11). For example your hazard analysis may determine that there is no risk of hair contamination in the warehouse and extruding areas, but in the converting area there is a slight risk; in which case you may decide scalp covering only needs to be worn in this area.
The above is a sensible compromise, but it's sometimes easier to say everyone must follow the same rule. It may be window dressing but it is easier to control and demonstrates an intent to set standards rather than being dragged along.
Remember the evaluator must confirm any 'Exemptions to the Standard'.
