Strange Flavours in Soft Drinks

Does anyone have any idea what could cause a carbonated soft drink like iron brew to have a cream soda like taint? It's nothing to do with recipe mix up, more like chemical reaction with ingredients possibly.

What kind of chemical screen could be carried out on a soft drink in order to determine cause of taint. I for one, have no idea!

maybe the Irn got reduced ? Must admit i hv no idea what a cream soda taint wud taste like.

Iron Brew (as opposed to Irn Bru, made by Barr) is a bright orange sweet drink. It can be bought at the unholy cheap price of 39p for two liters from Lidl (other low-budget supermarkets ARE available), and tastes almost identical to its Barr-made parent, although slightly less fizzy. Very tasty. Any brand of Iron Brew is reccommended. Apparently a 'fruit flavoured' soft drink but I can't taste any fruit. Legend has it that Iron Brew was originally made of molten iron, straight out of the blast furnace, and coloured with Scottish ginger hair (veracity of this rumour is doubtful). The spelling was then probably bastardised to Irn Bru and sold as a brand.
Damn, Iron Brew from Lidl tastes darn good, costs feck all but makes you p**s like hell

Hi there

I have seen a fair few problems with taints unfortunately

They were usually down to tainted ingredients, inadequate cleaning/rinsing, cross over/cross contamination or wrong flavour addition.

Can you give a few more details:

You have a cream soda product?
Do you get the taint straight away or after a period of time?
Are there similar ingredients?
You clean everything between batches?

Thanks for all the replies. Taking the process apart, it appeared that the most likely cause of this issue was a cross-over type flavour contamination.

They have reviwed their cleaning processes so will see if it makes any difference.
