Hello Everyone,

I wanted to know, is it mendatory to get weighing scales used in the facility certified by outside calibration service? Also if we do inhouse pre operation weighing scale, what tolerance are allowed in scale?

I apologize for not being clear above. I wanted to convey that do we need to get our production and packaging scale calibrated from any company ( like metlar toledo) each year? for SQF. As well as we are doing inhouse pre operational check of weighing scale with OIML and NIST certified weithts, with this weight how much tolerance we can accept before we take the scale out of production?
Dear dhaval joshi,

Did you see this parallel thread -

There are some other threads on this forum for this topic which may contain more numeric data.

For sure, it is operationally relevant what size you are weighing, eg metal powder vs cabbages. And also on the absolute magnitude of the weight. And on the environment, eg wet / dry / lab. IMEX, sometimes analog are still faster / more robust/ more easily serviceable than digital but less interfaceable / less fashionable / less expensive .

Thanks Chales for your reply. we manufacture dry powder mixes and we are moving for SQF certification. Yes that thread was helpful.

Best regards

Dhaval

Dhaval, what is your target weight and tolerance for your product? What does your country law state for weight deviation? What would your customers accept? Your specification will help you to determine how accurate and consistent you need to maintain your weighing balances. How you do it, who does it and how often depend on the stability of your equipment and your internal capability.
