Are you really working with your KPI's?
Just want to create a general-talk... regarding KPI's. So that people can understand the usage of KPI better in QA functions (including me). Waiting for the reply from the experts
1.What is the most important KPI for Quality Assurance department in Food Industry
2. Are you really measuring your KPI's or only for the sake of management?
3.Do you link KPI with each individual job descriptions & job functions - do you give knowledge to the employee about his contribution to the KPIs?.

I'm too tired to google.
What does the "K" stand for ?
Surely it cannot be coefficient ?
Rgds / Charles.C
But in my old company being a middle level manager - I linked my department objective with each team member's goal. This is specially to share the work, to give ownership and get the work easily
Thanks for the joke!. We are awaiting for your valuable reply.

I'm afraid you flatter my humourous ability.
It seems i am a poor guesser also.
Thanks to google , I now also know that -
A KPI can follow the SMART criteria.

PS, an off-the-cuff answer to yr No.1 might be "survival"
Answering your question number 3:definitively YES, each person has the right and should be informed about the evoluiton of KPI msotly if he/she is part of the team in charge of the project which the KPI is related to.
There are lots of books regardind High Performance Teams,Team Building, Reinventing Management etc that could confirm this.
Best regards
Esther

RFT (another Jargon !) is surely a good KPI to show if procedures and systems are working. This is linked to the annual bonus of every worker and u bet, they know the meaning!

Our KPI for an increase in TLA is on track I see!
Jargon-loving people might be interested in these (serious / half-promotional) documents. The source website mentioned (frequently!) seemed a little creepy to me but maybe it's just my imagination. (I found stated concepts like "one major use for KPIs is to control people" a bit too honest for comfort).
Now I know what KPQ is also.

While waiting for the incandescent GMO, here's my suggestion -

(an example of obssessive usage
Rgds / Charles.C
Product Safety: We analyse our product on presence and levels of undesirable substances to ensure products sold are safe. Here we monitor tonnage that have elevated levels present divided over total tonnage sold. This may not exceed 2%.
Product Quality: For each customer complaint, audit finding, etc. we monitor the tonnage of product involved. Also this is divided over total tonnage sold. This may not exceed 1%.
Customer Satisfaction: Here we use the product safety and product quality KPI's, together with number of complaints and on-time delivery. If these are within limits, customer satisfaction is ok.
Business Perfromance: Monthly we monitor sold volume vs previous year and vs budgeted. If positive, also indicator for good customer satisfaction levels.
These are communicated to Management Committee monthly. Together with financial performance (coming from finance department) we operate a small but key set of performance indicators.

I am a QA Manager in Non Dairy Creamer Industry in Indonesia, recently i just make KPI for My departmen so i'll try to answer your questions :
1. The most important KPI is the KPI that have significant effect to your company performance such as costumer complaint, both HAzard and Quality complaints
2. In my department, we really measure that KPI achievement, and the achievement can effect not only for Company performance but for individual performance that effect to our bonus and salary increase.
3. yes. i must casacade the KPI'S QA depatment to my subordinary based on job Desc and Job responsibility (job function)
