Door access and security requirements

We produce low risk products (oils, flavours etc) in processes that are closed until the point of packing into drums/pails etc.
Some customer auditors and BRC consultants tell us that we need to control door access with punch keys or swipe fobs and that we need double door airlock systems. Secure access is easy to sort out but because we have several production buildings that are old and of poor design it is difficult to adapt them with airlocks. We can build some inside existing doorways but building outwards would be impractical and requrie planning permission.
Do we really need to do this or would chain/plastic curtains etc be acceptable?
(On doors that cannot be adapted e.g. up and overs in which the personnel access door is integrated I don't know what we can do but at least if we show willing in other areas...!).

We are producing low risk products as well - you can not enter directly to our productionarea from our outer doors. We have solved the issue, approved by auditor until now, simply by removing the outer doorgrebs so you need a key to enter. We have then discribed how long the doors may be open (if employees in/out quickly). This has been accepted

Interesting, thank you Conny. Just to be clear: are you saying you only have one door to the production area and it needs a key?
No, we have several doors - all without doorgreps. We also have gates where our trucks can access with pallets with raw materials - closed to our packing area by rubber"bands" (don`t know the English word ..) These gates can only be opened from the trucks -here we simply have removed the buttons outside used to open gates manually. These solutions works very fine for us.
