Fall prevention equipment

Dear all,

I would like to ask your help regarding feedback on working on heights safety.

I am writing aplan on: working at heights at the tankcleaning station (cleaning the inside oftankcars).

The cleaner needs to be on top of the car to open themanholes and put the spinners in. At the moment the railing of the tank car isused for protection. However sometimes it cannot be used because the railing isnot working (needs to be fixed by the company of the tankcar (the transporter)).

Does anybody have any experience with different fallprevention equipment?

Or do you have information about fall protection ontank cars and the legislation. It does not matter if it is not Dutch law.

Yes this is what I mean thank you.

I also want to find more information about working on tankcars as there is only one railing on the car.
It is still possible that the driver/workers fall off the tankcar.
Does anybody work with tankcars and has a example of a solution? I can find some online but I'm not sure if they're working.

UK's Safety enforcement agency (Healh & Safety Executive) have loads of information free for download http://books.hse.gov...ductList:data=0 This is a very good resource

but if its possible for someone to fall due to a failed barrier, they shouldn't be up there at all


you don't mention how access to the top of the tank is achieved, or what should stop them whilst they are up there.

without knowing anything of the role to be carried out or the difficulties experienced, it's a bit difficult to advise / recommend a solution

I would suggest ou look up the OSHA(USA) website where guidelines are available re working t heights&fall protection.
Also available are details on sevrl sites on CONSTRUCTION SAFETY.

To get a better idea of the situationhere is a situation schets and a photo.

There is loads of information about working at heights in construction sites.
There is however less (legal) info about working on tankcars.
