Recycling labelling for EU and USA

Hi,

We are going to start producing frozen seafood products in plastic trays with a sealed film lid in the new year, and marketing have asked whether there is any specifc labelling we need to display on the packets to do with recycling for the USA or EU.

We are a NZ based company, and we have not had to look into this sort of thing before. Was wondering if anyone could help :)

A competitors pakage that we have been looking at has the recycling symbol for the type of plastic and a statement regarding BPAs. Can anybody direct me to any information regarding the plastic used for the trays or recycling for either USA or the EU?

Thanks!

Dear Hryn,

Welcome to the forum !

I suspect the answer to yr question may be non-simple since you face the possibility of EC-wide regulations plus local also, the latter will depend on where you are shipping to. The US is, from memory, more uniform in its requirements, ie up to the FDA.

I am ignorant regarding plastic recycling (recommended ??) however are you already familiar with cardboard requirements ?

I am no general EC expert however, for example, Germany have their famous "grune puncte" (green spot, I think) law which requires all (I think) cardboard packaging items to be recyclable. The proof is via putting a logo on primary / secondary packaging.

This kind of query is typically donated to the receiver since they are invariably knowlegeable in the precise import requirements for their locality. In fact, most seafood importers IMEX demand to approve all the printing layouts for precisely this reason, ie avoiding any other specialized legalistic traps for the unwary.

I suggest you rapidly pass the buck back to the marketing dept.(Hopefully not yourself )

Many food packaging(with product) export to USA or EU that I ever seen , almost of them not have recycle symbol.
I meet only in food packaging export to Japan. For tray that used for frozen seafood have 2 type that I seen are PS and PP
How ever, here's some information
