Detection of Pinholes in Plate Heat Exchanger System
I would like to find out from those with an experience in dealing with Plate Heat Exchangers on how to detect pinholes in the system. Pinholes are a possible reason for cross contamination between raw product and processed products during heat treatment. Any ideas??

you will nedd to pressure test your plate pack , this us susually done by a speclist company in th UK. As this is a ctitical peice of kit we get ours tetsed every 6 months. Fluid hamndling srvices or the supplier of the pate pack should be able to help

You should also be doing a phosphatase test which will help with monitoring pasteurisation. If you are using Flurophos you may see your readings creeping up.
Pressure testing is usually carried out by the manufacturer of your plate pack. If you need some info on suppliers, there are a few of us here who can recommend a company

I was looking for maint work tickets and stumbled upon this, I know this an old thread but what we used to do was a bit simpler, even possibly crude. When it was down for sanitation inspection or other task (at least 2x a year), we constructed a box with 4ft lightbulbs inside, then laided the plates over the box (1 at a time) in a dark room/office and looked for light shining through.

You can buy detection liquid that you paint onto the plates.
One side is painted with a red indicator and the other side is painted with a white developer.
If there are any pinholes, they will show up as red dots on the white side of the plate.
This requires removing the plates from the rack, or in my case anyway.
