Maintaining an inspection line or perimeter gap in a warehouse?
This issue at hand wasn't a problem for me till the company that I work for decided to build a new warehouse, so the following question might be a silly one.
The "inspection line" or perimeter in the warehous must be 18 in or 45 cm minimum (and materials must be stored at least 18 in or 45 cm away from walls and ceilings)? The AIB Standard said so.
Do you know any other standards?
I need maximum 30 cm :)
Thanks,
andreea
Can anyone reference measurements or the actual clauses/wording relating to these requirements from the various FSMS standards.
Regards,
Simon
Critical Requirements
1.2.1.4 Raw materials are stored at least 18 in or 45 cm away from
walls and ceilings.
1.2.1.5 Adequate space is maintained between rows of stored raw
materials to allow cleaning and inspection. Procedures are
followed to guarantee the proper cleaning, inspection and
monitoring for pest activity in storage areas, where an 18 in
or 45 cm inspection perimeter cannot be provided.
Minor Requirements
1.2.2.4 If an 18 in or 45 cm clearance from walls is impossible due
to aisle widths and forklift turning space, a rack system
can be installed against the wall. In this case, a bottom rail
is installed 18 in or 45 cm off the foor so that no pallets are
stored on the foor.

That is very useful information as I am having the same problem. Before I can enforce a change like this, I need to see it in writing somewhere so I have a foundation for the SOP and training. I love that it is spelled out so completely in AIB, but is there an equivalent to it in the SQF Code?
Dear suzie,
Unfortunately there was probably no AIB forum around when this thread was started. So this thread remains floating in limboland.
I suspect AIB made it up based on a few, equally random, data floating around on the net.
@ Respondents - To avoid repetitions, SQF related answers, please add to Suzie's parallel, SQF, thread here -

Hi Everyone,
I do not see this outlined in the BRCGS warehouse manual issue 4, does anyone know where this would fall under? I see it in issue 8 under 4.15.1.
I would like reference something for operations.
Thanks
