Dear Saferpakers,

EU has issued the DIRECTIVE 2003/89/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 10 November 2003 amending Directive 2000/13/EC as regards indication of the ingredients present in foodstuffs.

Directive 89/2003

May be of interest for preprinted packaging materials.

Best regards. B) Franco

Certainly is Franco in so much as it's critical that ingredients are printed accurately and without printing errors such as missing print, out of register etc. In the BRC/IoP Packaging Standard I think these are referred to as defects critical to consumer safety.

Thanks for that.

:)

Dear All,

The BRC/FDF have issued guidance notes on 2003/89/EC see link below

BRC Guidance on the practical application of Directive 2003/89/EC

It's still not clear how allergens should be labelled.

When I have more info I will post it.

Cheers

More needs to be discussed on this issue at this forum.

WOW! the impact is tremendous. How much money does one have to spend to "revamp" their product labels before next X'mas (sorry Wallace) to meet compliance. What is the possibility of getting it wrong especially if EXPORTERS do not have access to professional help and thats money too.

WORRIED!

Here is an assessment carried out by the Food Standards Agency on the effects of the new packaging legislation. They think the cost to industry will be approx. £50m to £100m .
