CCP identification for storage and distribution of ambient drinks?

Hello everyone,

I'm very new to the site and it seems very helpful.

I'm a 9001/14001/18001 and 27001 assessor in the UK with limited BRC knowledge but I've been asked to help someone out until they get someone in place and trained.

I'm planning to do my BRC training but I'm hoping someone can help with one question?

My client does not have BRC but has recently had an audit by a client. One of the non conformances related to the fact that the process flow chart had no CCPs identified. When reviewing them some time ago, the client had thought that there were no ccps and produced only a stage flow diagram.

My client orders goods, receives and warehouses them at ambient temp and arranges delivery (own and third party transport).

Auditor has mentioned ccps including: date checks, damaged/blown stock at delivery, storage and dispatch of product.

Can anyone throw light on this?

many thanks

@ISOkirst

Hi Isokirst,

If you are not doing any manufacturing or relabelling, then i dont see how you can have any CCPS. The only major concerns would be correct storage as per the manufacturers recommendations, pest control, and stock rotation. All can be handled with prereq programs. Assuming training and cleaning (if applicable) as also covered in prereqs.

Checking for blown cans, date codes etc might be a way of adding value for your customer (i.e helping to ensure that they do not have to deal with faulty products), but would only constitute a QCP at best. Obvioulsy any such finds should be addressed to the manufacturer for them to resolve.

My 2 cents worth, hope it helps.

Many thanks Paul,

As I said, I'm new to this but I had been (almost) sure there were no CCPs.

I feel more confident to argue our corner now.

Hi ISOKirst,

Looks like a zero CCP flow diagram to me. The only issues; goods in, stock rotation, storage conditions, pest control, fabrication etc can be covered of in the normal manner without need for CCPs. Be wise to ensure the internal audit and non-conformace procedures are robust to esure you stay in control.

Best of luck

Dear ISOKirst,

In general, yr query is probably the most frequent generic post regarding typical storage control here, and similarly the usual requirement is to add support to a plan with "zero CCPs". This support is usually forthcoming.

Of course, in yr case, there may hv been a specific (historical) finding why the auditor felt that a CCP was necessary.

Sometimes the old saying - no smoke... etc is applicable. Some actual data is maybe recommended.

Thanks Charles,

I have amended the process flow to indicate the specific checks carried out at each stage and any cleaning schedules in place and any supporting procedures the company has documented. Hopefully the auditor will be satisfied.

Great forum here, feels very welcoming and not at all condescending to a newbie like myself.

many thanks

Also run all your process like receiving, storage, despatch etc. thru CCP determination procedure/chart and it will definitely turn out with no CCP. Doing this you will have a documented proof of why there is no CCP. This is also necessary in order to have BRC certification - must have HACCP Program - Fundamental requirement for BRC certification.

Many thanks Paul,
