I have a audit schedule etc and am trawling through the Internal Audits, but I am just wondering about the FSQM itself , I was going to read through it and see if there were any mistakes compared to the standard ( I got an NC at last audit for having written' in a timely manner' instead of' within 3 days'). I'm really just wondering how to record it.
Last year was easy as it was a whole new standard, therefore the whole manual had been revised.
I had also revised the pre requisite document but that wasn't accepted as i had no specific 'record' .( Got a minor for that too

Right. I'm with you. I conduct my internal audits differently and I have never been questioned about my process by any external auditor... and I have been auditing for about 14 years and sat on countless external audits.
Here's a rough idea of my processes:
Ok. Your management system has already been certified against the standard so you don't need to audit against that every internal audit (unless there are updates to the standard).
You are auditing your management system against your company's practices. You're asking the question: are you practicing what your food safety bible is preaching? In your checklist template, you question the statements you made in your management system.
For example, a statement on the system could be:
"A record of all deliveries and inspection of all ingredients and packaging is documented on F013 Receival Register."
Your checklist question would be: are all raw materials (food and packaging) documented on F013 Receival Register? And so forth.
So yes, the first time you conduct the internal audit will be long because you be converting a lot of the statements into questions.

- you have an external audit (desk audit, site audit, raised CARs, close off those CARs, are certified)

Yep, I am doing all that, as my internal audits. so every section of the manual is being checked against what the policy is, what we say we do and what we actually do.
I was wondering about reviewing the manual itself...the actual policies, which are derived ( in this case) from the BRC standard, it's looking like I don't need to do that though, since by default, the policies are being audited as part of the internal audit process.
There's a whole load of work I don't have to do Yippee!!!

How often are you supposed to audit yourself? Is it different for different programs within your company? I am new to this and am not sure. Thank you!
What do you mean by "audit yourself"? As in conducting internal audits? Depends on the standard you follow. Either bi-annually or annually.
