Should I be tracking the actual blade use? Blades in, blades out?
I have a metal control question with respect to Olfa knives with removable blades. We use them to cut sheet product down to size. Auditors have been content with the fact that we account for how many knife units we have and where they are stored, etc. But I figure it is the blades themselves that we should be worried about. When the end of the blade is dull we remove the blade from the holder and insert a new blade. The old blade is put directly into a safety sharps box.
Blades are discarded at the end of the day when the knife holder is cleaned....blades are susceptible to rust so they can be kept after they've been used.
Should I be tracking the actual blade use? Blades in, blades out?
Yes.
- issue blade
- must bring old blade back to get a new one
- dispose of in sharps container
- loss or breakage corrective action
- procedure and record
There is an example somewhere I will find it for you.

You may have to dig but you should find a blade control procedure and record.
