BRC requirements for re-packing

Previously, my BRC certified company has sold what we manufactured. We are now intending to purchase a product in bulk, send it for re-packing and then re-sell it from our facility.

Are we required to maintain traceability of the lot# provided by the original manufacturer?

Do we have to approve the re-packer before we can sell this product, even though we did not produce it to begin with?

What other BRC requirements do we have to consider?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi Saltsafety,

If you want this product to still be under your scope of certification then it I believe it falls under clause 3.5.4 Management of Outsourced Processing.

Clause 3.5.4.2 Outsourced subcontractor approval requires you to have a high level of confidence in the contracted suppliers as they are likely to have a significant effect on the quality and safety of the products. This usually means an in depth supplier audit or that they should be certified to a GFSI recognised standard.

Clause 3.5.4.3 Contracts and traceability requires documented mechanisms to ensure traceability is maintained.

Regards,

Tony
