Hello everybody,

I have almost graduated in a Master in Food quality and safety and I would like to extend my Msc with a certified course in HACCP, if its possible online, cheap and accepted in European Union.

Thanks for the info.

I know people who have taken AIB online.  $300 registration it looks like.

AIB is a large auditing company.  They are accredited by the International HACCP Alliance (http://www.haccpalli...tro-course.html)

That may be a good one for you.

Ohh I didn't know this: http://www.ifsqn.com...raining-course/

IFSQN also does HACCP training online and it looks like it's $200.  They are also accredited by the International HACCP alliance. (Sorry Simon I didn't know)

LPali , You wont need one until you need to show that you got to have a HACCP certification . As a graduate you have already learned the basic 7 principles and 12 steps . If not just google it . I am sure you will do good . Recruitment guys asking for HACCP certification  for an entry level graduate position are $TUPiD

HACCP is very much practical oriented and I did my HACCP advance level last year only as it was a non conformance raised by one of the auditor as he did took my Masters in food science as a qualification to show my competency and literally there was no flaw in my HACCP at all   :excl: . Well some certiifcation scheme do ask for a HACCP certiifcate which I still do not accept as a requirement.  Any way I did it but before that I worked in three different food company and developed the entire HACCP without an external certification .

He said he wanted to go through it to enhance his education.

That being said any good company will pay for your certification.  I'd just wait unless you want it as a bargaining chip.

HACCP is a great tool and at the same time easy to learn. Make sure that the online class is accredited by HACCP allience

My question was also intended to ask if in your experience you have found that a lot of employers are requiring for having HACCP certification. I have knowledge in HACCP from my studies and during my current internship position I'm dealing also with some CCPs but I was thinking if doing one course giving me HACCP certification will be important once I'm looking for a job.

Thanks.

As for if it's requested for a job?   Look at job postings around where you want to work.  But:

I'm going to give you a story but your experiences may vary:

I was fortunate to get HACCP certified at my first food manufacturers position because I worked in the Quality lab and we worked directly with all the CP and CCP paperwork.

When I applied to a job as a Quality Coordinator I leveraged that certification with the plant manager who was the hiring manager (it was a start up) with my experience working in packaging, processing, quality, and HACCP certification he picked me up to work with a co-packer and then I was going to be on the floor probably as a vacation relief operator (be able to work anywhere) but before we started production the Quality Manager stole me to work in the quality department because of my quality experience and (what else??) my HACCP certification.

Fast forward 16 (ish) months.  I saw a posting for a quality managers position.  Along with all that previous experience they saw that I had HACCP certification and the other thing they wanted was someone experienced in Internal Auditing and BAM I got the job (Of course I do interview exceptionally well... I mean look at my profile pic wouldn't you hire me too!)

So.  There is a chance you can get a lower level quality job, maybe even a manager job in a smaller place, that will give you HACCP certification... but HACCP certification is something you can use to leverage for a job also.

I have no college degree.. in fact most of my classes are in Theatre... but I've done quite well with just experience, HACCP Cert, and how awesome I am :shades: )

I say take the class.. bite the bullet and pay the 200ish bucks.  Go with an online class if you want (they are cheeper) like I said the one that IFSQN provides as well as the one AIB provides are both approved by the International HACCP Alliance and it won't hurt you at all to have the certificate other than paying for the training.

Good luck.

Merle
