I have a question about turmeric powder color. Turmeric is always yellow in color due to its acidic pH. It can be brownish yellow when alkaline. What is the difference in quality?

Hello GHS19,

Color of the turmeric is due to the Curcumin Content. However adulteration can be due to addition of Lead chromate and other artificial colors.Hence check for Curcumin Content of powder and check for adulteration test for lead chromate and artifical colors.

Thank you Sushil.

Yellow colour is imparted to turmeric by its active ingredient Curcumin. For Turmeric with low curcumin content, colour will be bright yellow and high curcumin content turmeric will be having an orangish yellow or brownish yellow colour.
