It may depend on any particular FS standard involved. And whether you process, or store or ? And possibly the location.
i predict that the majority of people outsource the majority of this function to the experts. There are also numerous posts here with attachments if you try searching "pest control".
I would source a local COMPETENT pest control company that offers pest control services for the food industry.
In the UK a pest control contractor would be expected to be a member of the BPCA or NPTA. Customers and BRC auditors always look to see if our contracted pest control company is BPCA/NPTA registered. These organizations approve pest control companies that meet their standards and have trained technicians and field biologists. In many other countries there are similar professional pest control institutions. Is there one in your country?
Once you find a competent contractor they will survey your site and develop a pest control specification / service agreement. As a rough guide this would include:
- 4 annual visits by the Field Biologist
- 8 annual visit by the technician
- Annual bulb change of Fly killer bulbs
- External and Internal rodent baits
- Internal insect monitor baits
- Call out for infestations and corrective / preventive action
- A manual with all of the information and records
Unless you have competent resources internally it's much better to outsource to the experts.

Hi Simon,
Do most standards only require the 4+8 annual visits? We are currently writing to AIB's Consolidated Standards and they want documentation of weekly checks for the indoor traps! I think this is excessive, considering there has never been a mouse seen on premise. I know AIB is far more prescriptive and much less risk based than the other standards so I am very curious. Thanks!
Hi AJ, in the UK 8+4 is the norm and that works out as monthly. I can't say for other countries.
In some high risk foods maybe more frequent may be prudent, but all the same weekly seems excessive...especially with no issues.
Maybe other members can advise what is required by their region/standard.

same as Simon, i source from LOCAL competence Pest Provider which is :
1. Approved by Goverment Services for Legality and Chemical Handling
2. have wide clients in Food Manufacturing
some Pest provider have 2 program depend on number of technician & Field Biologist visit:
1. Full Services IPM
48 annual visit by Technician
2 annual visit by Field Biologist
2. "Half" Services IPM
24 annual visit by Technician
1 annual visit by Field Biologist
