Hi All,

My question is regarding canned tuna drained weight inspection. Now we are following campden system.

Now we are standardizing production with FDA CFR-21, 161.190 requirements. This standard describing drained weight inspection with Can press cylinder and Tuna color identification with Munsell value system. Please any one can give idea about how this drained weight inspection doing, and Munsell color identification. From where we can order this Can press cylinder.

Thanks.

Hi skipjack,

Yr query is a little specilaised.

There are a few people here who work in the canned fish business but may have to wait a little.

From memory, the Munsel system is a standardised technique, should be available in textbooks ?

Does the FDA method you mention not specify the procedure ? Or is it the procedure you are seeking ?

IMEX canned foods, the net drained weight is typically just a question of opening/tilting the can and letting drain for specific time followed by weighing and subtracting average can weight. Not exactly high-tech. i recall there is a standard AOAC methodology also.
