Register of permitted items

Hi All

Who has a register of permitted items?

What have you included on your register?

How often do you check your plant against the register?

Do you find the register provides your plant with benefits?

Does anyone have an example of a register and procedures they are willing to share?

Cheers :smarty:

Hi angegenet,

It would help if you clarified what 'items' you are referring to jewellery? glass/brittle plastic? knives?

Regards,

Tony

Well we have a supplier standard that states:

Prevention of Foreign Object Contamination:

The site shall develop a register of necessary items permitted to be used in specified processing areas, and controls shall be implemented to manage compliance to the list, including compliance by visitors and contractors. Detectable versions of equipment required in processing areas shall be sourced where available and practical. Examples are detectable one

hi angegenet,

Yr Policy statement looks like a generic attempt at what might be called "an all-inclusive" format. Tthe last 4 words look interesting but incomplete ?

Is your control documentation to be further audited ? If so, that will minimally define the scope of yr own "necessary" terminology.

Otherwise, as suggested by Tony, it "all depends". haccp/risk assessment, ie FS,  typically, but not necessarily exclusively, somewhat focuses on glass and brittle plastics. But as per yr policy foreign bodies seems able to be applied across the BCPA categories.

An example of a glass register is below (there are numerous others on this forum) -

Reply sorry yes part was missing: The supplier standard states: The site shall develop a register of necessary items permitted to be used in specified processing areas, and controls shall be implemented to manage compliance to the list, including compliance by visitors and contractors. Detectable versions of equipment required in processing areas shall be sourced where available and practical. Examples are detectable one piece pens, stainless steel clipboards and scrapers.

How do you interpret this? what items do you interpret to have to be on a register?

We have HACCP that has FM covered in it, in detail:

We have policy's in:

GLASS, CERAMICS AND HARD BRITTLE PLASTICS

USE OF HIGH RISK PACKAGING MATERIALS E.G. GLASS JARS

SOFT (FLEXIBLE) PLASTICS

HARD (BRITTLE) PLASTICS

WOOD, CARDBOARD AND PAPER CONTROL

METAL CONTROL

FOREIGN OBJECT DETECTION SYSTEMS

Hi angegenet,

You omitted to answer as to any intended further auditing. I assume your quotation is from a specific buyer "Standard" ?

A "Register" is just a list. The contents will depend on the specific objective. It is unclear to me whether your list relates to safety only or includes "quality" factors.

For GFSI-recognized Standards, Registers used probably reflect the prescriptive, risk-based approach. Yr Standard may differ.? HACCP itself is flexible in format but i would not have considered the 3rd, 5th items you list as safety-related.

From a  Food/BCP/Safety context  Registers of Glass/Brittle objects and Chemical Labelling/Segregation are IMEX representative. Similar to the link in my previous Post. The details are product/process specific of course.

You might consider comparing yr Standard to some of the downloadable GFSI standards, eg BRC,SQF, IFS if you wish to compare.
