Mandatory Best Before Date in USA and/or Canada ?
Started by Franco, Feb 16 2006 09:23 AM
We've been supplying Vermouths to USA and Canada for decades.
Customers from USA and Canada are now asking for best before date to be printed on each carton
Tried googling and searchbots but got no news
Any news from Saferpakers ? Is it really mandatory for vermouths ? TIA. Franco

Would this requirement cause you problems mate? Do you know the BBD? I suppose it's years.

For sure we know, for sure it' s years, but we don't want to change our logistics according to another variable, maybe only because of a misunderstanding of a Customer's requirement
AFAIK expiry dates for the US market are required by some states but not others - I think the types of products that expiry dates are required for vary from state to state as well. If you are exporting across the States this is less than convenient :-)
In Canada a 'durable life' date is required on products with a shelf life of 90 days or less - not likely to affect you then.
Just to clarify, are they asking for this on outer cartons or on the immediate product carton (i.e. the food labelling information)?

On outer carton, but I guess there was a misunderstanding. The Customer is not asking for it any more.
