Acceptable Y&M limit for powder type products

Hi

I have this USP grade ingredient, Psyllium husk powder, which has a Y&M limit of < 1,000 cfu/g.

Working in a company mainly manufacturing dairy products for sensitive population/market, this limit is considered very high. In the industry, < 100 cfu/g is commonly used.

What would be the acceptable limit if the product is non-dairy powder and targeting general population? I had no luck with major references such as CODEX and local &export standards.

Any reference would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

Please visit the following link

http://www.pharmacop...4s0_m71745.html. It will provide the required information

For USP grade ingredient, Psyllium husk powder the total Y & M count should not exceeds 1000 cfu per g. so obvious the product you have does not meet the product normal specification.

Hi chikenfoot,

:welcome:

If the ingredient is going to be pasteurised then < 1,000/g would be acceptable.

Kind regards,

Tony

Hi Tony

The problem with us is the ingredient is dry blended in the finished product in considerable dosage (~25%). I am also concerned with greater implications. e.g. line contamination.

Not sure if my stance is too conservative.

Regards
