Hazard Based Risk Assessment for Distribution Center
Good Morning,
Am wondering if anyone can give me an example or lead me to template or general information on doing a hazard based risk assessment for a distribution center. My distribution center handles only shelf stable, packaged product, they also at times will store empty cans for our manufacturing facilities.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Tomato Country Girl,
If your product is packaged well and not exposed to the environment then the remaining hazards would be those commonly associated with receiving, handling and shipping. Chemical, biological and physical hazards may be present, but as long as the product is carefully packaged it would be difficult to demonstrate a reasonable threat to product safety or quality. Throw in TACCP and VACCP concerns as well so security needs to be a significant part of the evaluation. Depending on how the empty cans are handled and stored, you may have issues of dust and etc. finding their way into those. Some DC's engage in occasional fulfillment projects for their customers. Specialty packaging conversions and the like. that could be interesting for a standard risk analysis. The DC's that supply our firm have a relatively simple, straightforward risk analysis that does not have to be inflated simply because there isn't much there to begin with. Sometimes less is more.
