Looking for Ideas to convey what SQF means, on one slide!
Hello All,
I am looking for some ideas for a slide. My boss asked me to prepare one slide to convey what SQF means to our site. It is for the frontline employees so he asked that I use few words and more pictures to describe the benefit and how employees each play a role. Honestly, I'm stumped. So far, I have a picture of a farmer and a fork. :uhm:
Any suggestions will be most appreciated!

Hi Suzie,
That's not an easy assignment! The only thing that I have to offer is a sign that I put together and have hanging throughout the facility and in the front of each of my FSMS binders. It's not exactly what your boss is looking for, but there might be something in there that you can either use (although ours is very focused on seafood, which is 99.9% of what we handle) or will trigger an idea that is more applicable to your facility.

I can't compete with the beautiful pics in previous post but maybe a concept-driven approach if not over-the-top ?, eg something like the below attachment titled QUALITY COMES FROM - but rearranged as required/deletions to allow blowing up the PEOPLE and adding a worker(s) shot (i assume you do have Policies etc :smile:)

Don't think this is exactly what you're looking for, but I have this as part of our break room slide deck. I'm working on coming up with something better.

This is the slide that we use in Orientation and Refresher Training to introduce SQF. Not sure if it is what you are looking for but it might give you an idea. When we discuss SQF we also have a slide with our Mission Statement and a slide covering our CQP's, as we are level 3.

SQF Level 2 - Food (Product) Safety
SQF Level 3 - adds Quality
Everyone is involved in Food (Product) Safety and Quality.
We will have new procedures and documents for controlling contamination and making a quality product.
We will be audited each year to maintain SQF certification.
SQF has many requirements that may be new to us.
The auditor will rely mainly on written evidence of procedures and records.
Say what you do.
Do what you say.
Be able to prove it.

These replies have highlighted just how bad we are at succinctly talking about SQF as a culture. They're good for QA and management, but unhelpful as to how they affect the floor (with exception of "do what you..", I like those).
My Spiel to new employees tends to go along these lines:
Our company embraces SQF as a culture. SQF is basically a list of everything that could possibly go wrong when making food, and what could have been done that would have kept it from happening. By doing these things, we can prevent bad things from happening in the first place, rather than wishing we had done more after.
I also talk about recalls on the same topic:
Recalls/contamination is a "when", not an "if". All we can do is every day make small decisions that will help us avoid whatever causes our next one. And if we do that enough times, that "problem" might just never show up.
I made an entire presentation on SQF, what it means to our company, and how the re-certification audit(s) go and presented that to our employees as part of our annual training. I did it a few weeks before our re-certification audit so that all of our employees were able to be on the same page.
It basically boils down to:
SQF Level 3 is about food safety and quality. We want to make sure that our packaging would not cause harm to a consumer or a quality issue (examples of potential food safety issues) at our customer. SQF lays out the framework and requirements needed to help us prove to our customer that our containers are food safe and quality. To keep our certification we must go through an annual audit (examples of how employees should behave and how the audit days will generally go). The SQF auditor looks at all of our procedures, documentation, and processes to verify that our plant's food safety/quality plans and that it is effective to manage food safety (examples of SOP's, training, check sheets, etc.). And of course, "Say what you do, Do what you say, Prove it" made its way in there, as well.

As a refresher information after detailed training, we simply re-emphasize by sharing a "Prep sheet" that they can carry with them that echoed "SQF Policy words" like the following:-
a) To assure Quality and Food Safety, Regulatory requirements for our customers
b) To drive Continuous Improvement.
In terms of HOW it does the above:-
a) The SQF Code is a process and product certification standard.
b) It is a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)-based food safety and quality management system
b) Use the Image of interlocking circles ... "Say what you do, Do what you say and Prove it" to drive home the point (attached). If you want a better image quality, you can find from http://www.sqfi.com/...uidance-7.2.pdf, page 6.
Apart from that, we included some Acronym details, other points to remember from important programs etc., All of it in one page... It was a great help for many of our associates.
